Android 5.1 Lollipop Now Rolling Out To Nexus 4 And Nexus 7

Google has released the new version of their mobile operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop, last October along with a number of new Nexus devices. The Mountain View giant gave us a glimpse of Lollipop during Google I/O (first half of 2014) and then released the OS in October. Android Lollipop is a significant change compared to the previous iteration of the OS, Android KitKat. Google has re-designed more or less every part of the OS and has introduced what’s called “Material Design”. Unlike KitKat, you get a ton of animations here, skeuomorphic animations if you will. Android 5.0 Lollipop was full of bugs unfortunately and Google did their best to remove the majority of those in the 5.1 version of the OS. Well, Android 5.1 Lollipop has been out for quite some time now and has been rolling to Nexus devices all over the world. The time has come for some older Nexus devices in India to get a taste of Android 5.1 Lollipop as well.

The Nexus 4 smartphone and Nexus 7 (2012, Wi-Fi only version) tablet are now receiving OTA Android 5.1 Lollipop in India. The rollout started yesterday according to reports and the update weighs 174.5MB in Nexus 4’s case, and you’ll have to download 101.6MB if you’re using the Nexus 7 (2012). The Android 5.1 Lollipop brings along some new options, you can now edit your Quick Settings in the notification panel for example. The most important aspect of this update is optimization and bug fixes. The Android 5.1 Lollipop brings along much-needed tweaks in order for Android Lollipop to perform better as a whole. When the update is ready, you’ll be notified about it. You can also manually check if the update is available if you’d like by opening ‘Settings’ and then clicking ‘About Phone’ and ‘System Updates’ after that.

Google Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 (first-gen) are actually almost 3 years old at this point. Both of these devices were announced back in 2012, but Google is still updating each of them. The Nexus 4 has significantly more powerful hardware than Google’s first-gen Nexus 7 tablet though. Either way, if it hasn’t already, the update will hit your device(s) soon enough.
