Google Webmaster Tools Rebranded As “Search Console”
Google’s Webmaster Tools gets a new name, “Search Console” as the company aims to make the analytical tools inclusive of all parties, not just webpage owners

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is about to rebrand its Webmaster Tools as ‘Search Console’ in a bid to reach “everyone who cares about Search”. It offers much the same functionality as its predecessor, although seems to be aimed at all users, who happen to run a website instead of “webmasters”. Google wants everyone who makes a website; be it specialist web designers, search engine optimization (SEO) specialists, social media executives, bloggers, or enthusiasts doing it for the fun of it to feel right at home.
Google Search Console’s Product Manager, Michael Fink says Google understands general online consumers. “What you all share is a desire to make your work available online, and to make it findable through Google Search,” he said in a post on Google’s Webmaster Central Blog. This means that instead of just people charged with maintaining the websites, anyone can now see how well (or badly) their website is faring.Google’s Webmaster Tools have traditionally been offered free to site managers, who want to check their site’s indexing and presence on the search engine. Search Queries was one of the Webmaster Tools’ mainstays, It’s now called Search Analytics Report. The Search Analytics Report delivers a more detailed breakdown of website traffic. It also shows how a user views a certain website’s content, when it pops up in the results on Google Search.

Given how useful the data can be, Google say they believed the term “Webmaster” too constricting. The company’s rebranding of the analytical tools can be seen as more of a psychological move. “Search Console” sounds less complex and tech oriented than “Webmaster Tools”. It now invites everyone to go and look up valuable user data on websites.
Perhaps Google could have simply marketed Webmaster’s added features to the general public, since it has not really changed that much. Google says rebranding can be a more effective way to get a message across to everyone. The changes will be implemented over the next few weeks.
