Google Will Provide Update Guarantees For Nexus Devices With Android M

In just a few days Google is going to take the stage at I/O 2015 to announce Android M, the successor to last year’s Android 5.0 Lollipop. The new software is expected to bring many changes and there’s a new rumor which claims that the company is going to provide update guarantees for Nexus devices with Android M. This means that Google will make it clear from the get go which Nexus devices will receive Android M and which will remain on Lollipop.
This move will certainly limit confusion regarding Android updates and provide clarity to customers who purchase Nexus devices only because they promise rapid updates whenever new software is out.
There are always hardware limitations on older devices that prevent them from running latest software and it goes without saying that some older Nexus models may not be compatible with Android M.
For Google to make it clear from the start the devices that will and won’t receive Android M will be informative for users who can then device whether or not they need an Android device that’s compatible with new software.
According to the rumor, Nexus devices will be guaranteed major updates for two years and security patches for three years from the date of OS release.
As far as third party OEMs are concerned, they’ll create their own update roadmaps and Google won’t be able to provide their schedules, so majority of Android users will still remain in a state of confusion when it comes to software updates.
Google is expected to describe the Nexus update guarantees in detail at I/O 2015.
