Comcast working on new cable technology to deliver Internet speeds up to 10 Gbps
After Long Time Comcast-s-super-fast-cable-Internet-is-comingIn an announcement made this week, Comcast revealed that it is working on a next-generation cable technology which will offer super-fast Internet speeds.
According to the announcement made by Comcast, the super-fast Internet technology which the company is planning to roll out will enable people to connect to the Internet at a speed faster than Google Fiber's 1 Gigabit per second (1 Gbps).
Comcast claims that, in ideal circumstances and with the right modem, its new cable technology -- called DOCSIS 3.1 -- will have the capability to deliver Internet speeds up to 10 Gigabits per second (10 Gbps). The company already offers a super high-speed Internet service - called Gigabit Pro - which is capable of delivering data at a speed of 2 Gbps through an in-home fiber network.
The new cable technology which Comcast plans to roll out will work by increasing the efficiency of data transfer over current cable networks; and it would not require installation of fiber optic cables in homes.
About the expected availability of the new cable technology, a Comcast spokesman told FierceCable that the upgraded Comcast network will likely be complete within the next three years, possibly even two years.
