Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a technical process to enhance the visibility of a website in search engines, with the aim of driving more traffic to it. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a technique of optimizing web pages or whole sites in order to make them search engine friendly, thus getting higher indexing in search results.

SEO can be divided into two main areas: off-page SEO (work that takes place separate from the website) and on-page SEO (website changes to make your website rank better).

SEO is not buying the number #1 sponsored link through Google Adwords and claiming that you have a #1 ranking on Google.

SEO CATEGORIES:

SEO techniques are classified into two major categories:

White Hat SEO – Techniques that search engines recommend as part of a good design.

Black Hat SEO – Techniques that search engines do not approve and attempt to minimize the effect of. The technique is also called spamdexing.

White Hat SEO
An SEO tactic is considered to be White Hat if it has the features mentioned below:

• It is according to the search engine’s guidelines.
• It should not involve in any deception or false route.
• It ensures that the content a search engine indexes, and what exists in the link, is the same content a user will see.
• It ensures that a web page content should be meant for the users and not just for the search engines.
• It ensures good quality of the web pages i-e appropriate for an average user.
• It ensures availability of useful content on the web pages.

Always follow a White Hat SEO tactic and do not try to trick your website visitors. Be honest and patient, you will definitely see some good results.

Black Hat SEO or Spamdexing
An SEO tactic is considered to be Black Hat or Spamdexing if it has the features mentioned below:

• Attempting ranking improvements that are disapproved by the search engines involving deception etc.
• Redirecting users from a page that is made for search engines.
• Redirecting users to a page which is different from the page the search engine ranked.
• Serving one version of a page to search engine spiders/bots and another version to general traffic. The tactic is called Cloaking SEO.
• Using invisible or deceptive text, hiding them within the HTML code such as “no frame” sections.
• Repeating keywords in the metatags and using unrelated keywords. This tactic is called metatag stuffing.
• Calculated placement of keywords. This tactic is called keyword stuffing.
• Creating low-quality web pages with very little content and stuffed with similar keywords. These pages are called Doorway or Gateway Pages.
• Mirror websites by hosting multiple websites – all with mostly similar content but using different URLs.
• Creating a copy of a popular website which shows contents same to the original to a web crawler, but redirects traffic to unrelated or malicious websites. This tactic is called page hijacking.

Always stay away from any of the above Black Hat tactics to enhance the rank of your site. Search engines are too smart to be tricked. They can spot all the above properties of your site and ultimately you are in a loss.
